Quite often these days, I find myself feeling sorry for the current generation of gamers. They have to grow up in an era where graphics reign supreme over fun, varied, original content and the first person military shooter rules with an iron fist. I often hear developers and publishers talking about this modern age as the golden era of gaming, and I'm sure quite a few people would tend to agree right off the bat. Sales of gaming products are higher than ever and gaming has never been such a mainstream experience, never been exposed to such a wide demographic of individuals. But I would disagree; to put it in comic book terms, I believe we've already passed from the Golden Age into the Silver Age. I know I sound like an old fart spouting “back in my day” nonsense, but I just can't picture anyone feeling nostalgic ten years from now over Modern Warfare 2. To me the Golden Age of gaming was the era of 16 bit titles, and none exemplify this age more than the numerous beat-em-ups that ruled the arcades in the 90's. For a very long time, I thought we old gamers would never get the chance in this modern era to have an experience that harkened back to our childhoods in the Golden Age ever again. Then Ubisoft dropped Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game into the fray.

Continuing their trend, Capcom recently revealed two more characters for the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 roster during the Gamescom Expo in Europe this week. Marvel villan Dormammu, and Capcom's very own Viewtiful Joe are being added to the ever-growing roster. Click the read more button to check out some screenshots and video of them in action.

It seems that a lot of game companies are jumping aboard the Special Edition train, and Blizzard is no exception. Plans for a limited-release Collector's Edition of the popular World of Warcraft game's newest expansion, Cataclysm, have been announced. This edition is only available at select retail stores will include some very nice bonuses in addition to the game disc. I bet you're curious as to what those are, aren't you? To start, an "Art of the Cataclysm" art book with 176 pages of images from the cinematic department and WoW development teams as well as progressive visuals from game development. There will also be an exclusive in-game pet, Lil' Deathwing, who is a mini version of a much larger counterpart already in the game. A behind-the-scenes DVD with an hour's worth of interviews and commentaries, a soundtrack with 10 new tracks from Cataclysm, a special-edition mousepad featuring Deathwing, and WoW trading cards (including a starter deck, extended-art cards, and edition-exclusive hero cards) round out the prizes to be found in the Collector's Edition.
